IS 14965 : 2024/ISO 12005 : 2022 Lasers and Laser-Related Equipment - Test Methods for Laser Beam Parameters - Polarization
NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Second Revision) which is identical to ISO 12005 : 2022 'Lasers and laser-related Equipment - Test methods for laser beam parameters - Polarization' issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Optics and Photonics Sectional Committee and after approval of the Production and General Engineering Division Council.
This document specifies a method, which is a relatively quick and simple method with minimum equipment, for determining the polarization status and, whenever possible, the degree of polarization of the beam from a continuous wave (cw) laser.
This standard was first published in 2001 and was subsequently revised in 2017. First revision was based on ISO 12005 : 2003. This revision has been brought out to align it with ISO 12005 : 2022.
The major changes in this revision are as follows:
a) Description errors in 4.5 (analysis of the results) have been corrected;
b) Definitions of the "degree of polarization" and the "degree of linear polarization" have been made clear; and
c) Definition of extinction ratio has been changed.
The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminology and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appear referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and
b) Comma (,) has been used as decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a full point (.) as the decimal marker.
