This standard describes the method of identification of finished upper leather made from split leather.

IS 1640:1960 ‘Glossary of terms relating to hides, skins and leather’ contains provision which through reference in this text, constitutes provision of this standard. At the time of publication, the edition indicated was valid. IS 1640 is subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this Indian Standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent edition of IS 1640.
