NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 3) (Fifth Revision) which is identical with ISO 6506-3 : 2014 ‘Metallic materials - Brinell hardness test - Part 3: Calibration of reference blocks’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Mechanical Testing of Metals Sectional Committee and approval of the Metallurgical Engineering Division Council

This standard was originally published in 1959 and subsequently revised in 1968, 1983, 2005 and 2013. The fifth revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of ISO 6506-3 : 2014.

This Indian Standard is published in four parts. The other parts in this series are:

Part 1 Test method

Part 2 Verification and calibration of testing machines

Part 4 Table of hardness values

The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical with those used in Indian Standards. Attention is especially drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be as read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
