This Indian Standard ( Part 5 ) which is identical with ISO 8442-5 : 2004 ?Materials and articles in contact with foodstuffs - Cutlery and table holloware - Part 5 : Specification for sharpness and edge retention test of cutlery? issued by the International Organization for Standardization ( ISO ) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Utensils, Cutlery and Domestic Hardware Sectional Committee and approval of the Mechanical Engineering Division Council.
International Standard ISO 8442-5 was prepared by the European Committee for Standardization ( CEN ) in collaboration with ISO Technical Committee TC 186, cutlery and table and decorative metal holloware in accordance with the Agreement on technical cooperation between ISO and CEN ( Vienna Agreement ).
The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ?International Standard? or ?European Standard? appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ?Indian Standard?.
b) Comma ( , ) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point ( . ) as the decimal marker.
ISO 8442 consists of eight parts, under the general title materials and articles in contact with foodstuffs - Cutlery and table holloware. The other parts in the series for which Indian Standards also exist are listed below along with their degree of equivalence for the editions indicated:
