This Indian Standard which is identical with ISO 8761 : 1989`Work-place air - Determination of mass concentration of nitrogendioxide - Method using detector tubes for short-term sampling withdirect indication' issued by the International Organization forStandardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standardson the recommendations of Environment Protection and WasteManagement Sectional Committee and approval of the ChemicalDivision Council.

In this adopted standard, ISO 6879 : 1983 `Air quality -Performance characteristics and related concepts for air qualitymeasuring methods' has been referred, against which there is noIndian Standard.
For tropical countries like India, the standard temperature andthe relative humidity shall be taken as 27+2°C and 65 ± 5 percent respectively.
For the purpose or deciding whether a particular requirement ofthis standard is compiled with, the final value, observed orcalculated, expressing the result of a test analysis, shall berounded off in accordance with IS 2 : 1960 `Rules for rounding offnumerical values (revised)'. The number of significant placesretained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of thespecified value in this standard.
