NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 4) (Second Revision) which is identical with ISO 20347 : 2012 ‘Personal protective equipment — Occupational footwear’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Footwear Sectional Committee and approval of the Chemical Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 2002 which was identical to ISO 8782-4 : 1998 ‘Safety, protective and occupational footwear for professional use — Part 4 : Specification for occupational footwear’. In 2004, IS 15298 (Part 8) was published as identical to ISO 8782-8 : 2000 ‘Safety, protective and occupational footwear for professional use — Part 8: Additional specifications for occupational footwear’.

In 2004, ISO amalgamated ISO 8782-4 : 1998 and ISO 8782-8 : 2000 and published it as ISO 20347 : 2004 ‘Personal protective equipment — Occupational footwear’. Thus, IS 15298 (Part 4) was revised in 2010 as identical to ISO 20347 : 2004.

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions and terminologies are however not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
