1 SCOPE
1.1 This standard specifies minimum requirements for design, installation and maintenance of fixed automatic water spray systems in general areas of plants/industrial buildings (high hazards, in general), various types of storage tanks (containing flammable liquids) in the open tankage areas, cable cellars in power stations and large power houses, material carrying conveyors, etc.
1.2 This standard covers only the types of water spray nozzles specified in 6 (see 6.2 and 6.3 in particular for details).
1.3 The requirements of this standard are also applicable to any addition, extension, repair or other modification to an existing water spray system.
1.4 The requirements of this standard are also applicable to the water spray systems also known as deluge systems. It is not the intention of this standard to cover other types of systems like automatic sprinkler system, foam sprinkler system, vapour mitigation system, etc.
1.5 The requirements are not valid for certain specific applications like those on ships, in aircrafts, on vehicles and for below ground systems in the mining industry and the like.
