IS 15420 : 2003 Metallic Materials - Charpy Pendulum Impact Test - Preparation and Characterization of Charpy V Reference Test Pieces for Verification of Test Machines

1 Scope

1.1 This standard covers the requirements, preparation and method ofqualifying and certification of reference test pieces that are used toindirectly verify pendulum impact testing machines.

1.2 It describes notched test pieces with nominal dimensions identical tothose specified in IS 1757. However, the tolerances are more stringent.The chemical composition or heat treatment or both are varied according tothe energy level desired.

1.3 Reference test pieces are qualified on reference pendulum impactmachines which are also described in this standard.
