1 Scope

This standard (Part 6) gives guidance on the use of computers inproduction control. It does not describe the use of computers inother areas of the business such as computer aided design,engineering management, finance, purchasing, payroll, maintenanceand sales order processing. However, the techniques andrequirements identified and recommended in this standard for theestablishment of a formal specification of requirement, selectionand justification of a computerized production control system(either bespoke or a commercial package), installation andimplementation of the system, together with the guidance onon-going operational requirements and future trends, may beapplicable not only to production control systems but equally tothe professional evaluation, selection implementation and operationof any business system in the manufacturing company.
