Indian Standards (1) IS 9692 (Part 8/Sec 1): 1988, (2) IS 9692 (Part 8/Sec 2): 1988 ; (3) IS 9692 (Part 8/Sec 3) : 1988 and (4) IS 9692 (Part 8/Sec 4: 1988 were based IEC Dot 56 (Central Office) 132 Draft IEC Publication 706 : ‘Guide on maintainability of equipment - Part 8: Maintenance and maintenance support planning’. The draft IEC 706 was later published as IEC 60706-4. The IEC 60706-4 was withdrawn and replaced by IEC 60300-3-14. The superseding of above mentioned Indian Standards has been undertaken to align it with latest version of IEC 60300-3-14 : 2004 and on publication of this standard, all the above four Indian Standards withdrawn.

The text of IEC Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
