IS 15539 : 2004 Recommended Practice for Magnetic Particle Examination of Steam Turbine Rotor Blades

ICS 27.040,77.040.20 MTD 21
Reaffirmed 2014

Scope

This standard describes the general procedures for wetfluorescent magnetic particle examination, a non-destructive testmethod for detecting surface and near surface cracks and otherdiscontinuities in ferromagnetic turbine rotor blades. Thisrecommended practice would produce repeatable results and alsoprecise enough to use as a basis for the preparation of specificprocedure to suit the individual type of turbine blades.

This standard does not indicate, suggest, or specify acceptancestandards for turbine rotor blades inspected it should be pointedout, however, that after indications have been produced, they mustbe interpreted or classified and then evaluated according to thespecific requirement. For this purpose, there should be a separatestandard to define the type, size, location, area of concentrationand orientation of indications that are unacceptable in each typeof turbine blade.
