National Foreword
This Indian Standard (Part 4) which is identical with ISO 10360-4 : 2000 ?Geometrical ProductSpecifications (GPS) - Acceptance and reverification tests for coordinate measuring machines(CMM) - Part 4 : CMMs used in scanning measuring mode? issued by the International Organizationfor Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation ofthe Engineering Metrology Sectional Committee and approval of the Medical Instruments, General andProduction Engineering Division Council.
Coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) are most modern method of dimensional inspection. With theadvent of numerically controlled machine tools, demand grew for a means to support this equipmentwith faster first piece inspection and in many cases 100 percent inspection. To fill this gap CMMs weredeveloped .by modifying precision layout machines.
The acceptance test and reverification test of this part of ISO 10360 are applicable to CMMs, that is,capable of being used in a scanning measuring mode and may be used to determine the form of asurface or the parameters of an associated feature.
The tests specified in this part of ISO 10360 are performed in addition to the size measuring testsaccording to ISO 10360-2, which are conducted without the use of scanning, and designed to assessthe performance of a CMM used in a scanning measuring mode. It is normally not useful to isolate thescanning probing errors from other sources of machine error.
The text of this ISO Standard has been proposed to be approved as suitable for publication as anIndian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used inIndian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ?International Standard? appear referring to this standard, they shouldbe read as ?Indian Standard?.
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practiceis to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
In this adopted standard, reference appears to certain International Standards for which Indian Standardsalso exist. The corresponding Indian Standards which are to be substituted in their places are listedbelow along with their degree of equivalence for the editions indicated:
