Revised Standard from Last Update.

NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 1) (First Revision) which is identical with ISO 8600-1 : 2015 ‘Endosopes — Medical endoscopes and endotherapy devices — Part 1: General requirements’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Surgical Instruments Sectional Committee and approval of the Medical Equipment and Hospital Planning Division Council.

This Standard was originally published in 2006 as IS 15732 (Part 1) : 2006 and was based on ISO 8600-1 : 2005 ‘Optics and Photonics — Medical endoscopes and endotherapy devices — Part 1: General requirements’. The first revision of this Standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of ISO 8600-1 : 2015.

This Indian Standard is published in several pats. Other parts in this series are:

Part 3 Determination of field of view and direction of view of endoscopes with optics

Part 4 Determination of maximum width of insertion portion

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
