IS 15870 : 2009 : Road Vehicles - Use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Fuel System In Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles - Code of Practice

1. Scope

1.1 This standard covers general safety and installation requirements and methods of test for checking the functionality of CNG onboard fuel system intended for use on motor vehicles defined in IS14272 (Part I). two wheelers, construction equipment vehicles (CEV). It also provides general layout guidelines for CNG operated vehicles and guidelines for instructions.

1.1.1 This standard is applicable to vehicles using compressed natural gas (mono-fuel, bi-fuel applications). It is not applicable to the following:

a) Liquefied natural gas (LNQ) fuel system components located upstream of, and including, the vaporizer;

b) Fuel containers;

c) Stationary gas engines; and

d) CNG fuel systems for the propulsion of marine craft.

NOTE - It is not intended to cover the areas where major structural modifications are to be carried out to the vehicle (major structural modifications arethose not defined in 4.13) . Prior 10 commencement of such wort. guidance should be sought from the vehicle manufacturer.
