NATIONAL FOREWORD

This draft standard (Part 1) (Fifth Revision) which is identical to ISO 6892-1 : 2019 ‘Metallic materials - Tensile testing - Part 1: Method of test at room temperature’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Mechanical Testing of Metals Sectional Committee and approval of the Metallurgical Engineering Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 1960 and subsequently revised in 1972, 1995, 2005 and 2018. The fourth revision of this standard was published as IS 1608 (Part 1) : 2018 identical with ISO 6892-1 : 2016. The fifth revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of 6892-1 : 2019 under dual numbering system to harmonize it with the latest developments that have taken place at international level.
