NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Part 1) (First Revision) which is identical to IEC 62031 : 2018 'LED modules for general lighting - Safety specifications' issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Lamps and Related Equipments Sectional Committee and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council.
This standard specifies the general and safety requirements for LED modules for general lighting services.
This standard was first published in 2012 and was based on IEC 62031 : 2008. This revision has been brought out to align it with the latest edition of IEC 62031.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) New definitions for 'replaceable LED module', 'non-replaceable LED module' and 'nonuser replaceable LED module' have been added;
b) The marking clause has been restructured and a table has been added to provide an informative overview;
c) Modification in the marking requirements for built-in LED modules;
d) Modification in the entry for the marking with the working voltage;
e) Deletion of Annex B;
f) Addition of information for luminaire design with regard to working voltage and water contact; and
g) Addition of abnormal temperature test.
This standard is published in two parts. The other part in the series is:
Part 2 Performance requirements
The text of the IEC standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appears referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
