NATIONAL FOREWORD

This standard (Part 2) (First Revision) which is identical to IEC 62717 : 2019 CSV 'LED modules for general lighting - Performance requirements' issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Lamps and Related Equipments Sectional Committee and approval of the Electrotechnical Division Council.

This standard was first published in 2012, was based on IEC 62717 : 2011. This revision has been brought out to align it with IEC 62717 : 2019 CSV.

The following modifications have been incorporated to the revision of the standard:

a) Modification in terms and definitions;

b) With regard to EMC, references to harmonic currents are given;

c) Split of failure mechanisms into abrupt failures and luminous flux depreciation. Consequently, new terms and definitions, new requirements for lumen maintenance and a complete new structure and contents of Annex C has been added;

d) Modification in places where to mark (product, packaging, data sheets), and as a consequence of the split of failure mechanisms, new parameters are listed. Further, changes in the endurance test (ramping speed of temperature) are reflected in marking;

e) The concept of displacement factor instead of power factor is introduced;

f) Modification in requirements on luminous efficacy;

g) Modification in requirements associated with the family concept;

h) Addition of new requirements for lumen maintenance;

j) As part of the endurance test, the maximum light decrease after accelerated operation life test is now fixed;

k) Modification in Table 7 'Sample sizes';

m) Modification in Annex A on measuring methods, for example for ambient temperature and for shortening of stabilization time when conducting subsequent light output measurements; and

n) For electrical characteristics, the ageing time may be chosen as 500 h.

This standard specifies the performance requirements for LED modules for general lighting services. The other part in the series is:

Part 1 Safety requirements

The text of the IEC standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appears referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
