NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (First Revision) which is identical to ISO 21178 : 2020 'Light conveyor belts - Determination of electrical resistances' issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Conveyor Belts Sectional Committee and approval of the Production and General Engineering Division Council.

This standard specifies test methods for determining the electrical resistances of light conveyor belts according to ISO 21183-1. The resistances are surface resistance, volume resistance perpendicular to the belt plane, and longitudinal and transverse volume resistance parallel to the belt plane. This standard also specifies two test methods for determining the surface resistivity and the volume resistivity.

This standard was first published in 2017. This revision has been brought out to align the standard with ISO 21178 : 2020.

In this revision, following major changes have been incorporated:

a) New terms and definitions have been added;

b) Technical changes to the 5, 6 and 7 have been made;

c) Annex A has been deleted; and

d) Editorial corrections have been made.

The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appear referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
