NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 2) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized by the Solar Photovoltaic Energy Systems Sectional Committee had been approved by the Electrotechnical Division Council. This standard covers test methods for portable LED based solar lanterns, which are lighting systems consisting of white LEDs as a light source, a storage battery (Sealed maintenance free lead-acid or nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) or lithium based battery or other) and electronics, all placed in a suitable housing made of durable material such as metal or plastic and a separate PV module. The battery is charged by electricity generated through the PV module through a charge controller. For the purpose of this standard, the service environment of the lantern (without the PV module) can be described as being fully covered by a enclosure to protect it from direct rain, sun, wind-blown dust, fungus, etc.

This standard is published in two parts. The other part in the series is
