NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Part 1) (First Revision) which is identical to ISO 9211-1 : 2018 'Optics and photonics - Optical coatings - Part 1: Vocabulary' issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendations of the Optics and Photonics Sectional Committee and approval of the Production and General Engineering Division Council.
This standard was originally published in 2016 and was identical with ISO 9211-1 : 2010. 'Optics and photonics - Optical coatings - Part 1 : Definitions'. The first revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of ISO 9211-1 : 2018.
The major changes in this revision are as follows:
a) The definitions of elliptical, circular and random polarization have been aligned with IS 11145 : 2018;
b) In Table 1, the code designations HR and PR have been added to the reflecting function; and
c) Fig. A.7 has been replaced.
The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appear referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
