NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 1) which is identical with ISO 25964-1 : 2011 ‘Information and documentation— Thesauri and interoperability with other vocabularies — Part 1: Thesauri for information retrieval’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Documentation and Information Sectional Committee and approval of the Management and Systems Division Council.

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are however not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

This first edition of ISO 25964-1 cancels and replaces ISO 2788 : 1986 and ISO 5964 : 1985, which have been merged and technically revised. Clauses 1 to 13 of ISO 25964-1 correspond broadly to the content of ISO 2788 : 1986 and ISO 5964 : 1985. The remaining clauses cover new material.
