1. SCOPE

This Indian standard (Part 2) describes specifications for public key infrastructure support in an operating system for smart cards. This standard (Part 2) also specifies the data structures for storing and retrieving cryptographic information in a card. It also provides details of various cryptographic mechanisms like authentication, encryption/decryption, certificate verification and digital signature that need to be supported using public key cryptography.

The standards listed in Annex A and Annex B contains provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this standard. At the time of publication, the editions indicated were valid. All standards are subject to revision and parties to agreement based on this standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards indicated in Annex A and Annex B.
