1. SCOPE

1.1 This Indian Standard specifies method for determination of total alkaloids as nicotine by continuous-flow analysis, eliminating the use of potassium cyanide (KCN) for the in situ generation of cyanogen chloride required for the analysis of nicotine alkaloids.

1.2 This method is applicable to manufactured and unmanufactured tobacco and tobacco products.
