NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Part 1) which is identical with ISO 14096-1 : 2005 ‘Non-destructive testing — Qualification of radiographic film digitization systems — Part 1: Definitions, quantitative measurements of image quality parameters, standard reference film and qualitative control’, issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Non-destructive Testing Sectional Committee and approval of the Metallurgical Engineering Division Council.
This Indian Standard is published in two parts. The other part in this series is:
Part 2 Minimum requirements
Radiographic film systems are used for industrial inspection by X- and gamma rays. To apply modern means of computer support for analysis, transmission and storage the information stored in the radiographic film should be converted into digital data (digitization). This standard defines minimum requirements to ensure that the relevant information for evaluation of the digital data is preserved during the film digitization process.
The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ?European Standard' appear, referring to this standard, they should be read as ?Indian Standard.'
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
