NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 1) which is identical with ISO 16140-1 : 2016 ‘Microbiology of the food chain — Method validation — Part 1: Vocabulary’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Food Hygiene, Safety Management and Other Systems Sectional Committee and approval of the Food and Agriculture Division Council.

This Indian Standard is published in two parts. The other part in this series is:

Part 2 Protocol for the validation of alternative (proprietary) methods against a reference method

The following parts of ISO 16140 are currently under preparation:

Part 3 Protocol for the verification of reference and validated alternative methods implemented in a single laboratory

Part 4 Protocol for single-laboratory (in-house) method validation

Part 5 Protocol for factorial interlaboratory validation of non-proprietary methods

Part 6 Protocol for the validation of alternative (proprietary) methods for microbiological confirmation and typing

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
