IS 17259 : 2025/ISO 28881 : 2022 Machine Tools - Safety - Electrical Discharge Machines
NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard which is identical to ISO 28881 : 2022 'Machine tools - Safety - Electrical discharge machines' issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Machine Tools, Machine Tool Elements, and Holding Devices Sectional Committee and approval of the Production and General Engineering Division Council.
This standard was first published in 2020 based on ISO 28881 : 2013 'Machine tools - Safety - Electrical discharge machines'. This revision has been brought out to align it with the latest version of ISO 28881.
The following major modifications have been incorporated to the revision of the standard:
a) The service mode (MO Service) has been introduced for safety during maintenance and servicing.; and
b) Annex C has been rewritten. In the rewritten Annex C, presentation and clarity have been improved. Grey cast iron (FC300) for integrated dielectric fluid tanks is allowed. It also enhances fire safety by improving sensor specifications, expanding fire alarm integration, and refining hydrostatic testing requirements.
The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appear referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
