1. SCOPE

1.1 This Indian Standard (Part 2) describes approaches to calculate natural, natural origin, organic and organic origin indexes that apply to the ingredient categories defined in IS 17316 (Part 1). It also offers a framework to determine the natural, natural origin, organic and organic origin content of products based on the ingredient characterization.

1.2 Neither IS 17316 (Part 1) nor this part addresses product communication (for example, claims and labelling), human safety, environmental safety, socioeconomic considerations (for example, fair trade),characteristics of packaging materials or regulatory requirements applicable for cosmetics.

1.3 This part builds on and enhances IS 17316 (Part 1). It is intended to be used in conjunction with IS 17316 (Part 1).
