New Standard from Last Update.

NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard which is identical with ISO 18451-1: 2019 ‘Pigments, dyestuffs and extenders — Terminology — Part 1: General terms’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Raw Materials for Paints, Varnishes and Related Product Sectional Committee and approval of the Chemical Division Council.

The committee responsible for formulation of the standards on raw materials for paints and varnishes viewed that there is no Indian standard on terminology for raw materials for paints and varnishes. Hence, to develop the standard on the subject and to eliminate the ambiguity and confusion from different interpretation of the terms used in the field of raw materials for paints, the Committee felt that it would be more convenient to prepare this standard by adoption of ISO 18451-1 on dual number basis.

This standard is intended primarily to cover the technical definitions terms, and it may not necessarily include all the legal meanings of the terms.

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as `Indian Standard’

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, in the International Standard, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
