NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 1) which is identical with ISO 5667-1 : 2020 ‘Water quality - Sampling - Part 1: Guidance on the design of sampling programmes and sampling techniques’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Water Quality Sectional Committee and approval of the Chemical Division Council.

Designing sampling programme for monitoring water quality is the first and most important part of regulatory monitoring for surface waters, sewages, effluents and other possible sources of pollution. This standard covers the major aspects of designing sampling programmes, namely, safety precautions, objectives, sampling location, conditions affecting sampling, sampling specific types of water, frequency of sampling, flow measurements for sampling, sampling techniques, sampling equipment, avoidance of contamination, transport, storage and maintain records.
