NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard which is identical with ISO 2528 : 2017 ‘Sheet materials - Determination of water vapour transmission rate (WVTR) - Gravimetric (dish) method’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Paper Based Packaging Materials Sectional Committee and approval of the Chemical Division Council.

There are many industries where moisture control is critical. Moisture sensitive foods and pharmaceuticals are put in packaging with controlled water vapour transmission rate (WVTR) to achieve the required quality, safety, and shelf life. Increasing WVTR values indicate greater permeability, and lower ability to keep dry products dry, and moist products moist.
