1 Scope

1.1 This standard covers definitions of terms relating to stone(used for construction purposes) quarrying and dressing includingthe tools used for these.

Note - For glossary of terms relating to geology (miningterminology) and blasting, reference should be made to IS 5940 :1970 and IS 4863 : 1968 respectively. The detailed classificationof rocks for building is covered in IS 1123 : 1957. The termspertaining to masonry construction are covered in IS 1597 : Part I: 1967.
