NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard, which is identical to ISO 11999-6 : 2016 'PPE for firefighters - Test methods and requirements for PPE used by firefighters who are at risk of exposure to high levels of heat and/or flame while fighting fires occurring in structures - Part 6: Footwear' issued by the InternationalOrganization for Standardization (ISO), was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Footwear Sectional Committee had been approved by the Chemical Division Council.

This part of ISO 11999 specifies the minimum design and performance requirements for footwear as part of personal protective equipment [PPE] to be used by firefighters, primarily but not solely to protect against flame and high thermal loads while fighting fires occurring in structures.

The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions and terminologies are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

 a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appear referring to this standard, they should beread as 'Indian Standard';and

 b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker in the International Standard, while in IndianStandards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
