IS 1868 : 1996 Anodic Coatings on Aluminium and its Alloys - Specification

1 Scope

1.1 This standard lays down general specification for anodicoxide coatings on aluminium. It defines the characteristicproperties of anodic oxide coatings on aluminium, lists methods oftest for checking the characteristic properties, specifies minimumperformance requirements, gives information on the grades ofaluminium suitable for anodizing and describes the importance ofpretreatment to ensure the required appearance or texture of thefinished work.

1.2 This standard does not cover `hard anodized' coatings forengineering purpose, for which abrasion and wear resistance are theprimary characteristics.
