NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Part 1) which is identical to ISO 10705-1 : 1995 'Water quality - Detection and enumeration of bacteriophages - Part 1: Enumeration of F-specific RNA bacteriophages' issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Food Microbiology Sectional Committee and approval of the Food and Agriculture Division Council.
This Indian Standard is published in four parts as adoption of corresponding parts of ISO 10705. The other parts in this series are:
Part 2 Enumeration of somatic coliphages
Part 3 Validation of methods for concentration of bacteriophages from water
Part 4 Enumeration of bacteriophages infecting Bacteroides fragilis
The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appear referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
