NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard which is identical to ISO 8968-3 : 2004 'Milk - Determination of nitrogen content - Part 3: Block-digestion method (semi-micro rapid routine method)' issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Dairy Products Sectional Committee and approval of the Food and Agriculture Division Council.

ISO 8968 'Milk and milk products - Determination of nitrogen content' consists of the following parts:

Part 1 Kjeldahl principle and crude protein calculation

Part 3 Block-digestion method (semi-micro rapid routine method)

Part 4 Determination of protein and non-protein nitrogen content and true protein content calculation (reference method)

ISO 8968-1 : 2014 and ISO 8968-4 : 2016 have been identically adopted as Indian Standards [IS 11917 : 2018/ISO 8968-1 : 2014 'Milk and milk products - Determination of nitrogen content - Kjeldahl principle and crude protein calculation (first revision)' and IS 18836 : 2024/ISO 8968-4 : 2016 'Milk and milk products - Determination of nitrogen content - Part 4: Determination of protein and non-protein nitrogen content and true protein content calculation (reference method)', respectively].

The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appear referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
