This Indian Standard (Part 38) which is identical with IEC Pub50 (421) (1990) `International electrotechnical vocabulary -Chapter 421 Power transformers and reactors, issued by theInternational Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), was adopted by theBureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of BasicElectrotechnical Standards Sectional Committee and approval of theElectrotechnical Division Council.

This Indian Standard (Part 38) was first published in 1973 andthe first revision was done in 1977 and covered vocabulary relatingto transformers only. This second revision has been undertaken tocover the vocabulary relating to both transformers and reactors andalso to align it with the international practice.

Only the English text given in the IEC publication has beenretained while adopting as Indian Standard, and as such the pagenumbers given here are not the same as in IEC publication.
