This Indian Standard (Part 42) which is identical with IEC Pub50 (436) (1990) `International electrotechnical vocabulary -Chapter 436 : Power capacitors, issued by the InternationalElectrotechnical Commission (IEC), was adopted by the Bureau ofIndian Standards on the recommendation of the BasicElectrotechnical Standards Sectional Committee and approval of theElectrotechnical Division Council.

This Indian Standard (Part 42) was first published in 1985. Thefirst revision has been undertaken to align with the internationalpractice.

Only the English text given in the IEC publication has beenretained while adopting as Indian Standard, and as such the pagenumbers given here are not same as in IEC publication.
