NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 48) which is identical with IEC 60050-806 : 1996 ‘International Electrotechnical Vocabulary (IEV) Part 806: Recording and reproduction of audio and video’ issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Audio, Video and Multimedia Systems and Equipment Sectional Committee and approval of the Electronics and Information Technology Division Council.

IS 1885 (Part 48/Sec 1) and IS 1885 (Part 48/Sec 2) were published in 1978 and were largely based on IEC Pub 50 (806)- 1975 ‘International Electrotechnical Vocabulary, Chapter 806 : Recording and reproduction of sound and video’, issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). IEC Pub 50 (806) : 1975 has been revised and replaced with IEC 60050-806:1996.
