NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Part 712) which is identical with IEC 60050-712 : 1992 ‘International Electrotechnical Vocabulary — Part 712: Antennas’ issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Transmitting Equipment for Radio Communication Sectional Committee and approval of the Electronics and Information Technology Division Council.
IS 1885 (Part 21/Sec 1 to 6) ‘Electrotechnical Vocabulary — Part 21: Antennas’ was originally published in 1967. The First revision published in 1988 was based on IEC Doc: 1 (lEV 712) (Central Office) 1240 Chapter 712 of IEC: Antennas, issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
This superseding of IS 1885 (Part 21/Sec 1to 6) has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of IEC 60050-712 : 1992. On publication of this Indian Standard (Part 712), IS 1885 (Part 21/Sec 1 to 6) : 1988 ‘Electrotechnical Vocabulary — Part 21: Antennas’ stands withdrawn.
The text of IEC Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
Only the English language text has been retained while adopting it in this Indian Standard, and as such, the page numbers given here are not the same as in the IEC Publication.
