NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 90) which is identical to IEC 60050-221 : 1990 'International electrotechnical vocabulary - Chapter 221: Magnetic materials and components' issued by International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Magnetic Components, Ferrite Materials, Piezoelectric and Frequency Control Devices Sectional Committee and approval of the Electronics and Information Technology Division Council.

IS 1885 (Part 31) : 1971 and IS 1885 (Part 41) : 1975 were based on 'IEC Document: 1 (09) (C.O.) 1004 International electrotechnical vocabulary - Chapter 09: Electrotechnical materials-terms and definitions relating to magnetism' and 'IEC Document : 51 (Central Office) 112 Terms and definitions relating to nonreciprocal electromagnetic components' respectively. These IEC standards were later published as IEC 60050-221 : 1990. The superseding of above mentioned Indian Standards has been brought out to align it with the latest version of IEC 60050-221 : 1990 and on publication of this standard, IS 1885 (Part 31) : 1971 and IS 1885 (Part 41) : 1975 stands withdrawn.
