This Indian Standard (Part 10) (First Revision) which isidentical with ISO 31-10 : 1992, issued by the InternationalOrganization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau ofIndian Standards on the recommendation of the Basic StandardsSectional Committee (MSD 1) and approval of the Management andSystems Division Council.
The text of the ISO Standard has been approved as suitable forpublication as Indian Standard without deviations. Certainconventions are, however, not identical to those used in IndianStandards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in IndianStandards the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimalmarker.
Wherever the words `International Standard appear, referring tothis standard, they should be read as Indian Standard.
This standard was first published in 1983. In this revision,following changes have been made:
a) The decision by the International Committee for Weights andMeasures (CIPM) in 1980 concerning the status of supplementaryunits has been incorporated;
b) A number of new items have been added e.g. active energy; and
c) The Annex regarding special names of units of CGS system, hasbeen deleted.
