NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard (Part 1) which is identical to ISO 14242-1 : 2014 'Implants for surgery wear of total hip-joint prostheses - Part 1: Loading and displacement parameters for wear-testing machines and corresponding environmental conditions for test' issued by the International Organization for Standardization was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Orthopaedic Instruments, Implants and Accessories Sectional Committee and approval of the Medical Equipment and Hospital Planning Division Council.
This standard has been issued in several parts. Other parts of this standard are:
Part 2 Methods of measurement
Part 3 Loading and displacement parameters for orbital bearing type wear testing machines and corresponding environmental conditions for test
Part 4 Testing hip prostheses under variations in component positioning which results in direct edge loading
Amendment 1 published in 2018 to ISO 14242-1 : 2014 is given at the end of this publication.
The text of ISO standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appear referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
