NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Fifth Revision) which is identical with ISO 11949 : 2016 ?Cold-reduced tinmill products - Electrolytic tinplate’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of the Wrought Steel Products Sectional Committee and approval of the Metallurgical Engineering Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 1962 and subsequently revised in 1974, 1982, 1993 and 2006. Fourth Revision of this standard was identical with ISO 11949 : 1995. The fifth revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of ISO 11949 : 2016. The major changes in this revision are as follows:

a) In scope, range of thickness is increased.

b) New clauses introduced on general technical delivery conditions and classification and inspection documents.

c) Clause on manufacturing features, mechanical properties, tolerance on dimensions, coating and shape, sampling, test method, retests, dispatch and packing has been modified.

d) Two new Normative Annexes (A & B) have been added providing grades for classifying mechanical properties in terms of hardness and tensile strength respectively.

The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should be read as ‘Indian Standard’.

b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker, while in Indian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
