IS 2297 : 1997 Gear lubricants, compounded - Specification
ICS 75.100; 21.200 | PCD 25 |
|
Reaffirmed 2014 |
1 Scope
1.1 This standard prescribes the requirements, method ofsampling and test for the gear lubricants intended for use in wormgear drives.
1.2 The lubricant shall conform to one of the eleven viscositygrades as distinguished by the prescribed viscosity limit given inTable 1.
1.3 These lubricants are primarily intended for use in enclosedand semi-enclosed worm gears operating under such conditions ofload, temperature and sliding speed for which straight mineral oilsare not adequate and EP type oils are not called for. These are, however, NOT SUITABLE for lubrication of HYPOID gears. Thelubricants covered by this standard are equivalent to the servicedesignation API-GL-2.
