This Indian Standard (Second Revision) which is identical with ISO 513 : 2004 ?Classification andapplication of hard cutting materials for metal removal with defined cutting edges - Designation ofthe main groups and groups of application? issued by the International Organization forStandardization (ISO) was adopted by Bureau of Indian Standards on the recommendation of theSingle Point Cutting Tools, Carbide Tips and Indexable Inserts Sectional Committee and approval ofthe Production and General Engineering Division Council.
This standard was first published in 1975 and was based on ISO/R 726 and first revised in 1999 toadopt ISO 513 : 1991 ?Application of hard cutting materials for machining by chip removal -Designation of the main groups of chip removal and groups of application?. The revision of thisstandard is again taken up to align it with latest version of ISO 513 : 2004.
The text of ISO Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard withoutdeviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards.Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words ?International Standard? appear referring to this standard, they shouldbe read as ?Indian Standard?.
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker in the International Standards, while inIndian Standards, the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
