NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 1) (Third Revision), which is a modified adoption ISO 5743 : 2021 ‘Pliers and nippers - General technical requirements’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Hand Tools Sectional Committee, after approval of the Production and General Engineering Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 1964 and subsequently revised in 1981 and 1989. In the first revision, the material and cutting test were modified. The second revision was based on ISO 5743 : 1988 ‘Pliers and nippers - General technical requirements’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The third revision of this standard has been undertaken to align with the latest version of ISO 5743.
