1. SCOPE

This Indian Standard (Part 2) (Third Revision) which is a modified adoption of ISO 5744: 2004 ‘Pliers and nippers —Methods of test’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized by the recommendation of the Hand Tools Sectional Committee, had been approved by the Production and General Engineering Division Council.

This standard was originally published in 1964 and subsequently revised in 1981 and 1989. In the first revision, the material and cutting test was modified. The second revision revised was based on ISO 5744: 1988 ‘Pliers and nippers - Methods of test’ issued by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The third revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of ISO 5744.
