1. Scope

1.1 This standard (Part 2) covers the design and construction of timber piles for earth retaining structures, shore protection, slope protection, compaction of ground or to support structures up to two storeys.

1.2 It also covers timber piles used for load bearing structures, however, in such cases, timber piles capped with a continuous reinforced cement concrete beam shall be used below the load bearing walls.

1.3 Sawn timber piles, generally used in sheet piling, are not covered in this standard.
