IS 2986 : 1990 Steel castings for marine engines and boilers

1 Scope

1.1 This standard covers the requirements for steel castings formarine engines and boilers such as boiler mountings, valve chests,machinery castings, etc. It does not cover the requirements forturbine cylinders and associated castings as well as crank shaftsand crank webs.

1.2 Notwithstanding what is stated in this specification, therequirements as laid down in the rules for manufacture, testing andcertification of castings of a Classification Society for which aship is being built, which the ship builder specified in hisenquiry and order, are to be complied with, in all respects. Forthis purpose, it is necessary that the purchaser gives the requiredparticulars to the foundry at the time of enquiry and order.
