NATIONAL FOREWORD
This Indian Standard which is modified adoption of IEC 60335-2-40 : 2022 'Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-40: Particular requirements for electrical heat pumps, airconditioners and dehumidifiers' issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on recommendation of the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Sectional Committee and approval of the Mechanical Engineering Division council.
This standard was first published in 2018. This standard has been brought out to align it with the latest version of IEC 60335-2-40 with modifications.
This standard supersedes IS/IEC 60335-2-40 : 2018.
The IEC standard has been approved for publication as Indian Standard with modifications (see National Annex SS). Additionally, certain terminologies and conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards. Attention is particularly drawn to the following:
a) Wherever the words 'International Standard' appear referring to this standard, they should be read as 'Indian Standard'; and
b) Comma (,) has been used as a decimal marker while in Indian Standards the current practice is to use a point (.) as the decimal marker.
